Hi all,
I hope every one know about firefox personas. We can design an addon, which shows the paintings or photographs as a browser wallpaper. So If people like the browser wallpapers(I mean paintings or photographs), they can buy it online, and user can also rank the paintings or photographs. I believe this would be a good platform for artists, so they can reach millions of people using our addon. We can enhance it to other domains, like fashion.
Thanks,
sathi.
This is a good idea. It's an awesome way to monetize the otherwise free firefox personas.
ReplyDeleteCouple of advantages I see:
- The painting is not actually save-able even in screenshot mode - but the user gets a fairly nice idea of how beautiful the picture is.
- Analytics we provide to the artists are the source of revenue (and this does not use the open-source firefox personas code). So, this is legally monetizable.
- Things which need to be figured out are
1. Would the users like to change their personas everyday?
2. Would a good picture/painting necessarily mean a good persona? Or will it at least trigger the buying instinct in the user?
@PraaPi:
ReplyDelete1. Firefox personas is the one of the top downloads of firefox addons(33 million)
2.I guess people would like to change their wallpapers couple of times in a day.
3.Not all users buy pictures online, but once we get a good buzz, there is a chance that lots of upcoming artists may use this service to check their paintings stats.
4.I have seen couple of people who wants their browser a more polished.
Firstly, I am very glad that more people are participating in these discussions. Thanks a lot sathi.
ReplyDeleteNext coming to this specific idea, trying to be critical, I see a few problems:
1> People will pay if a platform is a way to showcase themselves. For e.g, people pay for Wordpress themes. I am a little skeptical if people will pay for things that are eye-candy only for themselves and not a way to showcase themselves. For e.g, very few people pay for wallpapers and screen-savers, even very high quality ones.
2> Typical population using Firefox are too used to free-stuff like addons. I am little concerned how many of them really are ready to take out money.
