One button/touch emergency phone call/message

Not something that people wouldn't have thought of I'm sure.

An SOS phone application (if this ever gets made, I'm planning to call it "Save Your Phooks") which must be capable of the following:

  1. If you've met with any kind of accident, based on the GPS data about the current location, it should inform the nearest hospital/ambulance services, police, family, etc.
  2. If you're in a difficult situation (being kidnapped, mugged etc.), based on a few patterns of phone movements (rotate the phone 360 degrees, throw it down or some such thing), automatically message the police etc.. Such a thing could be a boon for women especially.
  3. And of course, signal SOS (how many of us really know how to signal SOS?) using the phone camera's flash.
Will add to this when I think of some more.

  1. Feasibility issue: The immediate problem I see here is that if it has to be one touch/key, it cannot be an app (to get to all the apps in the phone and select this particular itself takes a couple of clicks). Am I missing something?

  2. Ok, by app. I mean any program/process. It needn't be something that the user has to go and select from the menu to open. It could a daemon process which could be triggered by the occurrence of some events.

  3. Can we (non-OS owners) write such things?

  4. The application will run in user space. In user space, running a background process should definitely be possible. I'm sure there are lots of apps which run as background processes.

  5. Then this is good. Should work out the details, like what gestures should be used to signal emergency (like in point 2)...

  6. sounds interesting
i saw an app recently(hawker) which is used to transfer an image/sms by just waving your phone and the receive within the proximity should wave backward to receive it. something like that can be used (OR)
incase u r not able to reach ur phone as you might be in driver's seat(which takes time to react and reach ur phone), then we can make some deamon receiver run which keeps listening and a code word like PHOOK can be used to perform some action like informing nearest phooks.
